Longevity

The correct determination of longevity has always been a hard nut to crack. The longevity of a native can be determined by different methods. Of the mathematical systems, Pindayudaya and Amsayurdaya, especially the latter, seems to have received considerable attention from several well-known ancient writers.

Pindayu Method: –

The term of life given by each of the planets in its deep exaltation is as follows:-

Reductions: –

Four kinds of reductions (HARANS) should be applied: –

1) Chakrapatha Harana  2) Satru ksehtra Harana  3) Astangata Harana and 4) krurodaya Harana

1. Chakrapatha Harana

2. Satrukshetra Harans

The planets in their inimical houses, one third (1/3) of the term obtained after Chakarapatha Haranas must be deducted Planets in Retrogression and mars are not subjected to Satrukshetra harana.

3. Astangata Harana

When a Planet is combust (Planets within certain Degrees from the Sun) one half of the term (1/2) left after the Chakrapaths and Satrukshetra Haranas are carried out must be deducted.

Degrees of Combustion forward or backward of the Sun:-

MOON-12,     MARS-17,      MERC.-14,    JUP.-11,                     VEN.-10,        SAT.-15

But Venus and Saturn are exempted from Astangata Harana .

4. Krurodaya harana

When one or more Malefics occupy the Lagna, reduction due to their presence must be made in terms already obtained after the reductions due to Chakrapatha, Satrukshetra and Astngata Haranas have been made.

If two or more planets occupy the Lagna, the planet nearest to the lagna- degrees must be taken in to account.

If malefics in the Ascendant is aspected by a benefic, the harana fraction so obtained is half of what it would otherwise be.
